Mike Pence Denounces Idea of Trump Arrest

(LibertySociety.com) – A leak to the press on Friday, March 17th, 2023, of the possible indictment of former President Trump by the District Attorney for Manhattan, New York, created a weekend firestorm for the political world. The 45th President responded to his possible arrest with calls to protest and “take our country back,” which has drawn mixed reactions in the Republican realm. Many Democrats have weighed in as well.

Former Vice President Mike Pence spoke about the idea of the former president being arrested during an interview with John Karl at ABC News on Sunday, March 19th, 2023, voicing his opposition to the possibility. Karl asked if he believed calls for protests were irresponsible two separate times, which prompted Pence to push back, stating that “The American people have a constitutional right to peaceably assemble.” Pence also stated that he believes if former President Trump is arrested, it would be motivated by politics, adding that “it’s just not what the American people want to see.”

Many people in the political world are expecting former VP Pence to launch a bid for the White House in the coming months. Notably, Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who many speculate will also run, did not offer a comment on the matter until Monday, March 20th, 2023, while Nikki Haley commented on the same day. Vivik Ramaswamy, who has already announced his run for the oval office, slammed the idea of arresting former President Trump, taking to Twitter to post a video with his thoughts.

Republicans have offered their opinion on Americans protesting the possible arrest, with some claiming it would only enable bad actors to try and paint Trump supporters in a bad light by committing violence, and others saying that failing to protest would fuel the media to push a narrative that people do not support former President Trump.
