(LibertySociety.com) – Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg sparked outrage after a video of his 387-foot superyacht began circulating online.
Critics dubbed his $300 million 40th birthday purchase as hypocritical, given his and others’ incessant lecturing over reducing carbon emissions. The 5,000-ton vessel runs on four diesel-powered engines and can reach an impressive speed of 24 knots. The superyacht was designed by Espen Øino International, a Monaco-based naval architecture company. It is the second-largest yacht built by Feadship, a prominent yacht builder in the Netherlands.
The superyacht’s hull is made of steel and the superstructure of aluminum. Its color scheme is a sleek red, white, and blue, with wooden accents. Zuretti Interior Design out of France was chosen to do the vessel’s interior design. Zuckerberg’s yacht is just one of 70 in the world longer than 100 meters. It features several decks for his family and guests to enjoy. One yacht media outlet said 24 guests could comfortably occupy the 48-crew-member vessel.
The superyacht, called “Launchpad,” was spotted as it arrived for docking in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in late March. Coming in at number 46 on the list of largest yachts in the world, the vessel is just 30 feet shorter than the 417-foot megayacht owned by billionaire Jeff Bezos. The carbon emissions from Bezos’s yacht supposedly total 7,000 tons yearly, likely similar to the amount that will allegedly be emitted by Zuckerberg’s superyacht. The Meta CEO previously faced climate hypocrisy backlash when he spent $158,000 on jet fuel for his private plane in two months.
Conservative commentators began weighing in on the news of Zuckerberg’s purchase after videos and photos of the superyacht went viral. One user on X, formerly Twitter, wrote, “America’s elites are laughing right in our faces.” Another user sarcastically referred to the superyacht as a “Climate Hypocrite’s Hideaway.” Zuckerberg is currently ranked number four on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index with a net worth of around $169 billion.
