Elementary School Easter Egg Hunt Ends In Stabbing

(LibertySociety.com) – The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office in Battle Creek, Michigan, was called to the scene of a stabbing at Valley View Elementary School on March 23 after a knife-wielding man stabbed a woman and a family member. Adults were hiding Easter eggs for an egg hunt before the children arrived when, according to investigators, the 36-year-old man got into a verbal altercation with the woman over where the eggs should be placed.

A family member attempted to intervene, but the man pulled out a knife and cut the family member multiple times. The man was still holding the knife when deputies from the sheriff’s office arrived at the scene. They convinced him to drop the knife and arrested him under suspicion of aggravated assault. The family member was treated for the lacerations and is expected to make a full recovery.

Other regions also so violence on the holiday. On Easter Sunday in Nashville, 33-year-old Allen Beachem was shot and killed by Anton Rucker, 46, after the two men got into an altercation during brunch at a restaurant called Roasted. Rucker fired several shots after the fight escalated, injuring five others. It is unknown if Rucker and Beachem knew one another. Rucker fled the scene in a Mercedes GLS 450, which was found abandoned that evening. In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the Nashville Police Department said they were trying to determine a motive for the shootings.

The department posted a picture of Rucker’s mugshot from a previous arrest, noting that he had been convicted of aggravated assault in the past. He was most recently arrested in August 2023 for assault and gun charges, and then again in October 2023 on felony drug charges. Eight individuals were transported to the hospital, including Beachem and five others with gunshot wounds. Another victim was scratched during the altercation, but it was not clear how the injury occurred. The eighth victim suffered a panic attack. Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell shared the police department’s post, writing that his “heart goes out to those who had their holiday disrupted by gun violence.”
