Democrats Target Journalist During Twitter Files Hearing

House Twitter Files Hearing Turns Bad For Partisan Democrats

(LibertySociety.com) – The U.S. House Judiciary Committee held a hearing on March 9th, 2023, over the alleged weaponization of the federal government, with guest witnesses who have been responsible for publishing the Twitter files. During the hearing, Democrats made efforts to discredit the witnesses. From the outset, Delegate Stacy Plaskett, D-Virgin Islands, referred to the two witnesses who were testifying as “so-called journalists,” to which she was quickly called out for in the opening statement from Matt Taibbi, who is an award-winning journalist and author of ten books, many of them on the New York Times Best Sellers list.

Later in the hearing, Del. Plaskett, along with Representative Sylvia Garcia, D-Texas, tried to get Mr. Taibbi to reveal his sources for the Twitter files, prompting House Judiciary Committee Chairman, Representative Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, to intervene, stating that “He’s not going to reveal his source,” and adding that Democrats were violating the First Amendment by pushing him to do so.

Another line of questioning came from Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Florida. She tried to discredit Taibbi by highlighting the increase in the number of Twitter followers that he has received since taking on the investigation and subsequent reporting of the Twitter files. According to The New York Post, Schultz asked at one point if he had profited since he became a “recipient of the Twitter Files.” She also accused Taibbi of being “spoon-fed” a narrative from Elon Musk, attempting to use a quote from an interview Taibbi had with Joe Rogan. Representative Dan Bishop, R-N.C., allowed Taibbi to respond during his time for questioning, giving him the opportunity to point out that the quote she was attributing to him was actually a quote from a book that he was repeating to Joe Rogan.
