Elon Musk Threatens to Sue ADL Over Ad Revenue Decline

(LibertySociety.com) – Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk is refusing to back down from his commitment to offering a free speech platform for the world. Since he acquired Twitter, now X, in late 2022, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have attempted to crush the company by claiming that hate speech has massively increased on the platform. Back in July, X Corp., the parent company of X, sent a letter to the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH), threatening to sue the government-funded NGO. X Corp claimed that CCDH had designed and spread false narratives to advertisers that have resulted in a loss of revenue for the company.

Now Musk is taking aim at the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) for its role in the 60 percent loss of advertising revenue since he bought the company. In November 2022, just 20 days after the deal closed, the ADL tweeted a veiled threat at Musk. The NGO wrote that Musk had “put Twitter on deathwatch. It didn’t have to be this way.” Now Musk is readying the company for a defamation lawsuit against the ADL, with Musk saying that advertisers have informed him of the claims the ADL is making about him and the company. The ADL has repeatedly labeled him as antisemitic, which Musk says is part of their effort to “kill this platform.”

Musk made a series of posts on X about the matter, noting the irony of the ADL losing a defamation lawsuit. One Twitter user pointed out that the NGO has been previously fined by a judge in another defamation case. Musk believes that the ADL could be responsible for a loss of up to $22 billion and said that communications between the ADL and advertisers brought to light during discovery would show the truth to the world. Musk maintains that hateful speech on the platform has decreased since he took over, publishing analytics that show the initial uptick was the result of a targeted campaign against the company.
