(LibertySociety.com) – Tyson Foods is under fire after reporting that the company was looking to hire 42,000 illegal migrants at around the same time it announced the closure of a pork factory in Iowa. Around 1,200 jobs will soon be gone for workers in Perry, Iowa, a town of around 8,000 people. The company joined Tent Partnership for Refugees, which is an organization that claims to help asylum seekers with integration. Fox Business reported that the company would be recruiting illegal migrants in Manhattan to go to work at a Tyson plant in Tennessee.
The first event with the organization resulted in the hiring of 87 illegal migrants. Tyson’s CEO said that the company “would like to employ another 42,000 if we could find them.” Senator J.D. Vance, R-Ohio, blasted the company for firing American workers and hiring illegals. He said that Republicans should focus on showing the American people that the reason Biden is allowing unfettered illegal migration is to replace American workers with illegal migrants who will work for lower pay. The company’s decision prompted online social media users to call for a boycott of the company’s products. Users circulated an image containing every brand owned by Tyson so that boycotters would know which products to avoid.
The company claimed in a statement that it strongly opposes illegal immigration and is an active participant in two of the government’s programs that help employers avoid hiring ineligible workers. The company also said that the plant’s closure was unrelated to the hiring of the illegal migrants.
Tyson has hired refugees and illegal migrants with work authorizations for many years, but the closeness between the Iowa plant closure announcement and the company’s partnership with the refugee organization did not sit well with the American people. One conservative investment fund found Tyson’s decision to be a deal breaker. It divested its holdings with the company, arguing that customers would be alienated due to the ongoing border crisis.
