(LibertySociety.com) – President Biden’s toughest critic from the Democrat Party has Americans wondering if he is preparing for a run for President of the United States, but not as a Democrat. Senator Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., has been involved with a political group called No Labels for around 12 years, which has recently ramped up its efforts to get a candidate on the ticket for the 2024 elections. A third-party candidate is reportedly a fear among Democrats, but that is not stopping No Labels from pursuing the battle in all 50 states.
Senator Manchin met with leaders from the state of Iowa on May 11th, 2023, speaking in what some believe to be presidential rhetoric, saying things like “fiscally responsible and socially compassionate,” when describing himself to the audience of nearly 170 people from the Greater Des Moines Partnership. Senator Manchin spoke for around 30 minutes to the crowd but did not make any type of specific announcement regarding his party affiliation or 2024 intentions. Senator Manchin is up for re-election in 2024 but has not announced that he will try and retain his seat in the Senate. The Republican Governor of West Virginia, Jim Justice, recently announced his candidacy against Senator Manchin.
Senator Manchin recently told Axios, “You have got to fight for the reasonable, responsible middle and no one is doing that,” immediately after listing his concerns about the direction of the country. Notably, he has never denied that he is considering a run for the oval office, which is certainly concerning to Democrats who fear a split of their collective votes. He has also been very vocal with his criticism of the energy policies of the Biden administration, releasing statements with scathing rebukes of its actions. As recently as May 10th, 2023, Senator Manchin announced his decision to block President Biden’s nominations for the Environmental Protection Agency due to an overreaching rule they recently proposed.
