Marjorie Taylor Greene Calls for Investigation Over Chinese Balloons

Marjorie Taylor Greene Pushes for Investigation Over Chinese Balloons

( – Following the tumultuous election of Speaker of the House, many fresh faces have been selected to sit on some of the most sought-after committees in the United States House of Representatives. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Georgia, fought for Kevin McCarthy, R-CA, to win the speakership, notably with her effort to sway the holdouts that wouldn’t seem to budge all the way up until the last round of voting. Recently, she earned a spot on the House Oversight Committee, where there are multiple investigations underway.

On Tuesday, February 7th, 2023, Greene called for an investigation into the alleged Chinese-spy balloons that the Pentagon claimed were present in US airspace during the Trump administration, which has been vehemently denied by former President Trump and many of his key officials who would or should have been briefed on the matter. Since the Pentagon’s official statement on February 4th, which stated that “Chinese balloons briefly transited the continental United States” multiple times in the past administration, some lawmakers and previous Trump administration officials have called for clarification on the matter.

Shortly after the statement from the Pentagon and subsequent refutation by former Trump administration officials, a senior Biden administration official told Fox News that they were not discovered until AFTER President Trump left office. This has led to even more confusion and calls for more scrutiny into the matter. The Biden administration has offered former President Trump and his officials a briefing, according to Just The News.

On February 7th, 2023, Representative Greene tweeted, stating that there should definitely be an investigation if the Pentagon withheld information from President Trump. She noted that it would be a breach in command if they failed to inform the President.
