(LibertySociety.com) – Former President Trump is yet again under a gag order from U.S. District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan after she reimposed a previous order that is being appealed. Chutkan had temporarily paused the order, but Special Counsel Jack Smith requested that she reinstate it due to recent statements made by Trump.
Former White House Chief of Staff during the Trump administration, Mark Meadows, was the subject of two recent Truth Social posts by the former president. Meadows is a potential witness in the Department of Justice’s 2020 election case against Trump. Smith felt that he was taking advantage of the pause to threaten Meadows into not testifying against him.
Recent reports have surfaced about Meadows allegedly flipping on Trump and agreeing to testify against him regarding the battle to identify fraud in the 2020 presidential election. A spokesperson for Meadows has repeatedly denied claims made in the media, but the reports are numerous and widespread. Trump first wrote about people who are “weaklings and cowards” potentially taking a deal offered by the DOJ but mused that he did not think Meadows would do such a thing. Later, he posted that Meadows did not ever communicate any doubts to him about the irregularities identified in the election, adding, “He certainly didn’t say that in his book!”
Following Chutkan’s reissuing of the gag order, Trump blasted former Attorney General William Barr, who served in his administration. Barr is another potential witness in the case, but it is unclear if Trump knew about the order before posting about him twice. Trump was responding to a comment Barr made about his verbal skills during an event at the University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics. A short time later, Trump made a post about the gag order, slamming the Biden administration for taking away his First Amendment rights. Trump is the frontrunner for the Republican presidential primary, and his indictments have only grown his support base.
