Pence Dodges “MAGA” Republican Label

( – Former Vice President Mike Pence is ramping up his media appearances as the 2024 primary election campaign cycle is underway. While he endures heckling during most public appearances, he is met with a smile from the anti-Trump mainstream media. During an interview on NBC’s Meet The Press, Pence avoided likening his campaign to the “Make America Great Again” movement, likely because former President Trump is still using the slogan for his 2024 presidential campaign. Pence responded to Chuck Todd’s inquisition to get him to align himself with the movement by saying that he is “A Christian, a conservative, and a Republican in that order.”

He touted the accomplishments of the Trump administration, expressing his pride in the work that he and former President Trump had done. He states that “we literally did make America great again” with the help of Americans who are aligned with the MAGA movement. Pence’s campaign platform has all the markings of the MAGA movement, as he described his intention to “clean house on the whole top floor of the Justice Department.” He said that the American people no longer have faith that the law is being applied equally. He blasted the Department of Justice and the FBI for their handling of the Russia investigation and the investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Pence also discussed Attorney General Merrick Garland’s decision to name U.S. Attorney David Weiss as Special Counsel for his investigation into Hunter Biden and others. During another interview on ABC, Pence voiced his concerns with Weiss’ appointment, aligning with other Republicans who feel that Garland should have named someone else as special counsel. He also expressed concern about President Biden’s alleged involvement in his son’s business dealings, stating that he believes that all Americans should want to know the truth about the matter. Pence also vowed to stay focused on his plans for America during his campaign, rather than spending time levying attacks against former President Trump.
