Some Democrats Decline To Back Joe Biden for 2024

Some Democrats Are Not Endorsing President Biden

(LibertySociety.com) – The press is wasting no time seeking input from Democrat lawmakers in an effort to get their take on President Joe Biden announcing his run for re-election in 2024. Axios reported that they received comments from a number of lawmakers, many of whom expressed their support. However, a few declined to offer their endorsement. One of them included Senator Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., who has been increasingly vocal about his disapproval of decisions made by the Biden administration, especially related to energy and radical climate agenda issues. Senator Manchin told Axios that he has nothing to say about the matter, stating, “I wish everybody the best whatever they want to do.”

Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez offered a vague statement, not directly offering an endorsement, basically stating that she’s watching the progress of the race. Another member of the Democrat Party, Representative Cori Bush, D-Mo., acknowledged that she was aware of his announcement, but stated that issues within her district are what have “taken precedence over everything at this point.” Rep. Bush and Senator Josh Hawley have recently teamed up to address a growing concern about the presence of radioactive lead dust at Hazelwood School District in Missouri.

Representative Dean Phillips, D-Minn., also chose not to offer up an endorsement to President Biden as he believes that the best candidate is found through competition. Notably, he spoke about his belief that a new generation needs to take the lead back in 2022. Axios found that most Democrats who are up for re-election in 2024 voiced their support for President Biden, which they believe to be strategically important to take back the majority in the House.

Senator Joe Manchin is the outlier in this equation, as he is withholding his endorsement but is up for re-election in 2024. However, he has not yet announced his candidacy and has two Republican challengers vying for his Senate seat. West Virginia Representative Alex Mooney and West Virginia Governor Jim Justice have both announced their intention to run for the seat, with Governor Jim Justice projected to beat Senator Manchin if he chooses to run again.
