(LibertySociety.com) – A home burglar met his fate on April 17 when he chose to break into a Pittsburgh-area home with an armed woman inside.
The woman heard what sounded like glass breaking in her basement at around 5 a.m., prompting her to grab her 9mm handgun and head downstairs. Upon encountering the man, the woman immediately fired three rounds and killed the man. He was later identified as 49-year-old Brent Farmer. The woman answered several questions from the Beaver Falls police and Beaver County detectives before she was released, noting that she had never met the intruder.
Beaver County District Attorney Nate Bible said that the woman legally owned the gun she used to kill Farmer. He was asked by a local media outlet if the woman acted appropriately. Bible stated that “she did nothing wrong.” Pennsylvania has a castle doctrine that allows homeowners to use deadly force against intruders. The incident is still under investigation, but Bible believes that the woman will not face any charges. He was also asked what homeowners should do to protect themselves if they do not own a gun. He suggested taking self-defense classes, purchasing a large dog, or using virtually anything as a weapon.
