Smith Allegedly Sent Target Letter to Trump

(LibertySociety.com) – Although former President Trump has been busy campaigning over the last several weeks for the 2024 Republican presidential primary election, multiple investigations into his retention of government documents, events surrounding January 6, 2021, and the questioning of the 2020 presidential election have been taking his time. He has spoken at length during speeches about the original indictment from Special Counsel Jack Smith, telling Americans that he believes the charges are politically motivated to interfere with the 2024 presidential election.

Now the former president confirmed on June 17 that the rumors swirling about another possible indictment from Special Counsel Jack Smith appear to be true, as he posted on Truth Social, “I am a TARGET of the January 6th Grand Jury investigation,” stating that he received a letter from Smith saying that he has only four days to testify to the grand jury. He also stated that this type of letter typically means that a person will be indicted and is expecting to be slapped with more charges.

The 45th President discussed the target letter during an Iowa Fox News town hall event with Sean Hannity, stating that he was bothered by the news “for everybody in this incredible sold-out audience.” Trump has said from the outset that he is a barrier between the government and Americans, and that is the reason they are targeting him. He believes that the Democrats can only win if they succeed in removing him from the equation, likely with the help of establishment Republicans.

Thus far, Trump has been charged by the Manhattan district attorney for allegedly falsifying documents related to the payments made to adult actress Stormy Daniels before the 2016 presidential election. Special Counsel Jack Smith most recently indicted Trump for supposed obstruction of an investigation and for his alleged mishandling and retention of sensitive materials. Outside of what appears to be an additional indictment from Smith for his role on January 6, 2021, Trump could also be indicted in Fulton County, Georgia, by the district attorney who is investigating the 2020 presidential election in the state.
