Disney Lost $134 Million After Indiana Jones 5 Flops

(LibertySociety.com) – Disney is in the deep red for the production of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, according to financial statements released on March 29. It appears that Disney spent $134.2 million more to make the movie than it received from ticket sales. The film’s budget was $387.2 million, but that was before figuring in costs for promoting its theatrical release. The movie brought in $384 million in ticket sales.

Studios and theaters usually split the gross revenue 50/50, which means that Disney would have gotten $192 million. Forbes estimated that Disney suffered $134 million in losses after figuring in the costs for promotion and subtracting tax incentives.

The film could eventually turn a profit from TV licensing and hard copies. It was expected to do as well as previous Indiana Jones films. However, when adjusted for inflation, the profit was $610 million less than Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which was the lowest-grossing Indiana Jones film. Notably, the other Indiana Jones films were produced by Lucasfilm, but Disney acquired the company for $4 billion in 2012. In 2013, it acquired future rights to Indiana Jones films, but the first four films were still controlled by Paramount. Just ahead of the release of Dial of Destiny, Disney and Paramount brokered a shared rights deal that allowed the first four Indiana Jones films to be streamed on Disney+.

Breitbart News’ Senior Editor John Nolte argued that Disney “destroys everything it touches, adding that “everything Disney produces is anti-fun and anti-human nature.” He blasted the company for emasculating male characters who were supposed to be heroic. He noted that Disney’s productions often contain political persuasion through lecturing and race-based casting choices. He said that the company’s movies do not allow a relaxing or enjoyable experience because viewers have come to anticipate left-wing bias throughout. Nolte concluded by basking in excitement over the thought of Disney losing such a large amount of money.
