(LibertySociety.com) – Requests for more security in Pennsylvania for former President Donald Trump were reportedly denied by Secret Service officials leading up to the failed assassination attempt that almost ended the former president’s life.
Four people came forward to reporters under the condition of remaining anonymous and claimed that some Secret Service agents on the former president’s security detail requested additional agents, including “snipers and specialty teams,” to cover larger public events and especially outdoor rallies. They also claimed agents requested magnetometers and other equipment to help with securing Trump, who is a high-profile target. Higher-ups in the agency denied these requests.
The outdoor rally in Butler County on Saturday, July 13, will be an event discussed as a pivotal moment in American history for years to come after an assassin almost murdered a former president on live television, which would have been devastating for the country at large. The shocking attack killed one rally attendee, Corey Comperatore, and injured two other Trump supporters. It also increased support for the former president after he refused to be ushered off the stage by the Secret Service before having a chance to address the crowd by pumping his fist in the air with blood on his face and saying, “Fight, fight, fight.”
A bullet grazed the top of Trump’s ear, and analysis of footage and photographs shows that if he had not turned his head at that moment, the assassin would have succeeded. Americans were left with more questions than answers. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle was then grilled by Congress and unable to answer most of those questions, after which she resigned in disgrace on Tuesday, July 23.
The sources claimed that the “senior officials” who denied the requests said the reason for the rejection was a “lack of resources.” Secret Service Chief of Communications Anthony Guglielmi claimed in a July 14 statement that assertions of Trump’s security team asking for additional resources were “absolutely false.” Guglielmi said that “protective resources and capabilities” were actually recently added to Trump’s security detail.
Despite initially denying that such requests were rejected, the sources say that officials are beginning to acknowledge that some requests may have been denied.
