(LibertySociety.com) – In a surprising turn, exit polls from the recent presidential election show that a substantial 40 percent of women under 30 opted for President-Elect Donald Trump, marking a major shift in Gen Z women’s support away from the Democratic Party. This data, sourced from the Associated Press and reported by the Daily Mail, underscores the changing political priorities among young female voters.
According to the analysis, Trump’s ability to engage younger female voters through rallies and targeted messaging helped him secure a historically high share of the under-30 vote for a Republican candidate. This shift signals that traditional issues championed by Democrats, including reproductive rights, were not as central to this group as anticipated.
Vice President Kamala Harris focused much of her campaign on safeguarding abortion access and reproductive rights. She even appeared on the popular Call Her Daddy podcast and sought endorsements from cultural icons like Taylor Swift and Beyoncé to resonate with younger women. However, these strategies fell short as polling reveals that economic concerns largely eclipsed social issues for this age group.
Polling data revealed that only 13 percent of voters under 30 listed abortion as their primary concern, while 40 percent identified the economy as their main issue. Additionally, 11 percent of voters in this demographic cited immigration as their top concern — both issues that the Trump campaign emphasized.
Cornell University political science professor Sabrina Karim highlighted that while many had predicted women would largely support Harris, it is essential to remember that female voters are diverse and prioritize a wide range of issues. “Women are not a monolithic group,” she explained, noting that economic anxiety played a critical role in this election’s outcome.
Harris’s appeal to women did lead to a notable gender gap, with CNN exit polls showing an eight-point lead for Harris among female voters. Yet this margin was almost half of what President Joe Biden achieved in 2020, suggesting a decrease in Democratic support among women. Latino men, another key demographic, also shifted toward Trump in notable numbers; an NBC News poll showed that 54 percent of Latino men supported Trump, up sharply from his 36 percent support among this group in 2020.
Trump’s victory, making him the first president since Grover Cleveland to reclaim the White House after a lost reelection, highlights a broader shift in voter priorities that could reshape the political landscape for years to come.
