(LibertySociety.com) – Former President Trump officially has another primary opponent in the 2024 election, just one week after former Ambassador to the United Nations and former governor of South Carolina, Nikki Haley, announced her candidacy. Vivek Ramaswamy, a self-identified “anti-woke” entrepreneur who has been an ardent supporter of the former president, announced his candidacy on Tucker Carlson Tonight on February 21st, 2023. Ramaswamy is the co-founder of a company called Strive Asset Management, which had the financial backing of Peter Thiel and Senator J.D. Vance. Senator Vance has already endorsed former President Trump for re-election in 2024.
Ramaswamy, at 37 years old, is also the author of a book called Woke, Inc., which calls out the wokeness that has infiltrated American corporations, in addition to another book called Nation of Victims, which scrutinizes identity politics. He has been fervent in his convictions about his belief that America has been heading in the wrong direction for a very long time, often identifying the hypocrisy of climate activists with their private jets. His announcement video sends a message about how Americans need to “rediscover our national identity” and return to the “founding principles” of the country.
Ramaswamy was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, and is the son of two Indian immigrants. He completed his undergraduate degree at Harvard University and has a law degree from Yale Law School. He has been active in politics for many years, often appearing on Fox News and other media outlets as a correspondent. After Nikki Haley announced that she thinks politicians who are older than 75 should be required to take a competency test, Ramaswamy criticized her on Twitter, stating that she is “dead wrong”, adding that ideas should be the focus of candidates, not identity politics. Former President Trump has yet to make a comment about Ramaswamy joining the race like he did when Nikki Haley announced.
