US Soccer Team Swaps Classic USA Colors for LGBTQ Rainbow
(LibertySociety.com) – Recently, the US World Cup team changed its crest from patriotic red, white, and blue stripes to rainbow colors, showing its support for the LGBTQ+ community. The team is heading overseas to compete against athletes from around the world. This year, the FIFA World Cup will be held from November 20 through December 18 in Qatar.
Team spokesperson Neil Buethe said the athletes plan to display both emblems wherever they go: hotels, parties, and media spots. The rep said the US soccer team has a “world stage” and wants to “promote a spirit of inclusiveness” for everyone around the world.
“We’re a group that believes in inclusivity, and we’ll continue to project that going forward.”

The country is a peninsula surrounded on three sides by the Persian Gulf, east of Saudi Arabia. This event marks the first time the soccer series takes place in an Arab nation. But a recent interview with Qatar’s World Cup ambassador, Khalid Salman, revealed a possible issue for the US team.
On November 8, the Associated Press reported Salman referred to homosexuality as a “damage of the mind” and “forbidden.” Salman said of the guests in his country that, while they will all be welcome to observe and participate, they must remember to “accept [the nation’s] rules.” Nancy Faeser, Germany’s Interior Minister who also oversees the games, was assured of a “safety guarantee” by Qatar’s prime minister.
The US team plans to wear the standard red, white, and blue insignia on the field.
