UN Special Advocate Warns Rising Inflation Is Causing Food Insecurity, Making Families Skip Meals

United Nations Warns Inflation Worsening Food Insecurity – Here’s How

(LibertySociety.com) – United Nations Special Advocate Queen Maxima of the Netherlands recently stated her concern about food security due to the increasing price of food and energy in the region. She told CNBC the war in Ukraine may cause prices to increase by over 40%, and forecasts predict energy costs will rise more than half this year.

This could mean families will have to eat less and manage more instability in Europe, causing officials to worry. In fact, Queen Maxima said many people who currently make do with two meals a day will likely have to eat only one.

The queen has a lot of knowledge of finances, which she gained from working in emerging markets and international finance. She said the pandemic forced more citizens into poverty and she expects fertilizer price shortages to worsen an already tenuous situation. Without fertilizer from the nations currently at war, farmers are unable to produce as many crops to feed people. Since less food means higher prices, she believes the situation will only get worse.

Queen Maxima insists the road to recovery starts with digital solutions to bring affordable solutions to those in need. By allowing those struggling to stay connected and have their needs heard, the government can better meet everyone’s needs during the current and pending food and energy crises.
