Paul Pelosi Attack Raises Leadership Security Fears
(LibertySociety.com) – The vicious attack on Paul Pelosi startled many congressional members, prompting them to call for “increased security” to protect lawmakers and their family members. NBC News reported the sergeant-at-arms office for the House allows legislators to use up to $10,000 for security, in addition to a monthly stipend for “monitoring and maintenance.” Many don’t use the benefit, however, for various reasons.

Although the Pelosis have a security system installed in their home, it’s only actively monitored when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is home.
Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN), who receives death threats regularly, said she doesn’t have access to “enough resources” to protect her from those who wish her harm. The legislator said if bad actors can get to Paul Pelosi, they can certainly get to her. Another Democrat, speaking under a cloak of anonymity, said, at the very least, lawmakers who are “most visible” and their spouses need more protection.
A Republican member of the House admitted members of Congress have become targets for attacks. The politician then added those who say the most “incendiary” things should pay for their own security, saying the expense might keep them in check.
Capitol police recently said they intend to add almost 280 new officers by the end of 2022, but they won’t immediately be available for service until their training is complete. Police Chief Tom Manger said “security improvements” rank highly on their list.
