(LibertySociety.com) – Sergio Cardenas-Salinas, a 30-year-old illegal immigrant from Honduras, has been sentenced to 37 years in prison for leading an organized criminal operation in Texas that targeted homes for burglaries. According to reports, Cardenas-Salinas was living in Houston and had previously been deported from the United States twice for illegal reentry. Between July and September 2023, he masterminded a series of home invasions in cities like Plano, Prosper, and McKinney, stealing gold, jewelry, and cash.
The Collin County District Attorney, Greg Willis, detailed that after a thorough investigation by the Plano Police Department, nine individuals were arrested in connection with these crimes. The group consisted of individuals from Guatemala, Honduras, and Venezuela. Despite being deported twice, Cardenas-Salinas managed to reenter the U.S. and resume criminal activity, ultimately leading to his arrest.
This case highlights growing concerns over illegal immigration and crime. A recent Fox News poll showed that 67 percent of voters support the deportation of illegal migrants. This sentiment is rising as many Americans attribute economic and civic challenges to the influx of illegal migrants, a situation exacerbated under the Biden administration. Former President Donald Trump, who is running for the White House again in 2024, has promised mass deportations, especially of criminal migrants.
In addition to the home burglary charges, the prosecution presented evidence of Cardenas-Salinas’ prior criminal history, including a conviction for attempted deadly conduct. He had previously served six months in state prison. Following his sentencing, DA Willis made it clear that Collin County would not tolerate illegal immigrants committing crimes, stating, “This lengthy prison sentence sends a clear message: we will protect our community from those who come here to commit crimes.”
Cardenas-Salinas pleaded guilty to Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, a crime punishable by 5 to 99 years in prison.
