(LibertySociety.com) – As the primary election season gears up, it appears more likely that former President Trump will be the Republican nominee for President. Media outlets have even begun speculating about who he will choose for vice president. Donald Trump Jr. weighed in on the matter during an interview with Rob Finnerty on Newsmax. Finnerty was curious if Trump would consider picking another primary candidate as his running mate. He mentioned Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, noting that Trump opted out of picking a primary opponent in 2016 when he chose Mike Pence, who was serving as the governor of Indiana at the time.
Trump Jr. immediately brought up former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, proclaiming, “I would do whatever I could to make sure” that she was not chosen. He argued that ruling out a candidate who was performing well like DeSantis was unlikely. However, he told Finnerty that he had other choices in mind for VP. He mentioned Ohio Senator J.D. Vance, who has been a strong voice for America First policies since he took office in January 2023. Then he dropped a name that has likely haunted Democrats in their sleep ever since. Tucker Carlson.
Trump Jr. made clear that he was not kidding when he said, “I’d love to see a Tucker Carlson.” He told Finnerty that Carlson and his father agree on most policies and that both believe that the United States should stop getting involved in foreign wars. Rumors have swirled in recent months about Trump picking Carlson, but hearing Trump Jr. list him as a potential contender will certainly create more panic within the Democratic Party.
Politico published a piece on January 18, claiming that GOP infighting about Trump’s VP pick was front and center. The outlet used South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham as a source to confirm that Haley was a contender, although Trump has ramped up his criticisms of her in recent days. He posted an image on Truth Social of Hillary Clinton with Haley’s face photoshopped in and her last name at the bottom. Politico also listed New York Republican Representative Elise Stefanik and Vance as other potential contenders.
