(LibertySociety.com) – The day after an assassin’s bullet almost ended his life, former President Donald Trump responded with a message of faith, invoking God and calling on Americans to stay strong in the face of adversity.
On Sunday, Jul 14, the day after Trump survived an assassination attempt on his life at a rally in Butler County, Pennsylvania, he posted a message to his supporters thanking God and urging resilience.
The former president thanked everyone who reached out to him and all those who expressed their thoughts and prayers for him. He then said that “God alone” prevented his death. “We will FEAR NOT,” Trump added, and urged his supporters to “remain resilient” in their faith and “defiant” while facing “wickedness.”
Trump extended condolences and love to the other victims of the shooting and their families. He prayed for the wounded and called on the nation to hold the “memory of the citizen” who died in their hearts. That citizen was 50-year-old Corey Comperatore, who died while trying to shield his wife and daughter from the barrage of gunfire.
Trump emphasized the importance of standing united in these times, and to show the “true character” of the nation by “remaining strong and determined.” The former president added to not allow “evil to win” and expressed love for the US, its people, and excitement over speaking at the Republican National Convention, during which he was officially declared the party’s candidate for the November election.
The message of strength mirrored Trump’s bold statement after surviving the shooting when he pumped his fist in the air and said, “Fight!” three times before allowing the Secret Service to usher him off the stage and into his vehicle. Although several questions remain about the security failures that day which allowed the shooting to take place, Trump posted a message thanking the agents and law enforcement who rapidly responded.
Several questions also remain about the shooter, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, whose motivations are still unclear.
