(LibertySociety.com) – Former President Donald Trump has not held back from telling his followers how he feels about Special Counsel Jack Smith, the Department of Justice (DOJ) attorney. On June 13 he unleashed an attack on Smith, sharing an article from The National Pulse, which said that Smith’s wife directed a Michelle Obama documentary, donated to President Joe Biden’s campaign, and has ties to George Soros through his late mother-in-law, who was heavily involved in the Open Society Foundation. Trump referred to Smith as a “thug,” claiming that he “probably ‘planted’ information in the ‘boxes’ given to them.”
The former president also expressed his deep disdain for Smith during two speeches at the Georgia and North Carolina Republican state conventions on June 10, detailing his history with the DOJ, including his work at The Hague. He blasted Biden for allegedly weaponizing the federal government to go after his political opponent. He also highlighted two cases where he claims Smith was politically motivated, including a conviction against Republican Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell, which was overturned by the Supreme Court, and another case against Democrat Vice Presidential candidate John Edwards, which Smith lost in court.
Former President Trump faces 37 charges from Smith’s investigation and was arraigned in a Florida court on Tuesday, June 13. Shortly after he was released, he visited Versailles café in Little Havana, where he bought lunch for everyone. Supporters sang him birthday wishes, and a rabbi and pastor led a prayer for him in the middle of the café. After the visit, he returned to Bedminster, New Jersey, where he gave a speech at a fundraising event. MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow told her viewers that the network would not cover the campaign event, explaining that they chose not to put lies from the former president on the air, although she did add that she would inform her audience if he said anything she felt they needed to know about.
