Among All of Trump’s Legal Woes, What’s Going To Happen to Him Next?
(LibertySociety.com) – The multitude of investigations and legal proceedings involving former President Donald Trump on both the state and federal levels may have Americans wondering what happens next. On the morning of September 21, New York Attorney General Letitia James announced the latest addition to Trump’s legal woes.
During her press conference, the AG stated she filed a lawsuit against the previous US leader, three of his adult children, and his organization. Although the current case will take place in civil court, James is sharing information she uncovered with the IRS and the Department of Justice (DOJ) for their consideration in pursuing criminal charges against the politician.
Details and Accusations
The attorney general is suing the former president for $250 million she alleges he earned illegally. The New York lawyer claims Trump inflated his assets in the state to appear wealthier on paper to secure better terms from banks and insurance companies. When it came time to pay his taxes, James said the businessman deflated the same valuations in order to pay less to the government. She alleges Ivanka, Donald Jr., and Eric Trump were all in on the scheme.
The attorney general is not only seeking restitution but also plans to “end the Trump…empire” and ban the clan from purchasing real estate in the Big Apple for five years. She called for a ban against all family members named from doing business in her state.
In addition to the most recent news, the DOJ is continuing its efforts to move forward in its quest to scrutinize the former leader and his handling of the government documents the FBI seized from his resort at Mar-a-Lago. A Florida court settled on a special master to independently review the materials while ordering the Justice Department to halt its investigation. The 11th US Circuit Court of Appeals ruled the DOJ could continue.
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis in Georgia is also continuing her probe with a special grand jury into alleged efforts by Trump and others to overthrow the 2020 general election.
Trump Reactions
Following the announcement by James in New York, the former US leader took to TRUTH Social to respond. Trump slammed the AG, saying her actions are tantamount to just “another witch hunt,” calling her a “racist.” He encouraged her to focus on the skyrocketing crime rate in her city instead of persecuting him. The previous commander-in-chief’s sons also chimed in to back their father, echoing his sentiments.
Representative Elise Stefanik (R-NY) called James’ action a “deranged anti-Trump mission,” while former US Attorney General Bill Barr said it was nothing more than a “political hit job.”
Several other Republican lawmakers immediately jumped to the Republican leader’s defense.
