Trump Jr. Calls Iranian Plot Best Endorsement

(LibertySociety.com) – Donald Trump Jr. called reports of an Iranian plot to assassinate his father, Republican presidential nominee and former President Donald Trump, “sort of a great endorsement.”

He stated that it is “good for America” when a country like Iran seeks “to take you out.” However, he cautioned that Iran’s “capabilities are much more than a kid with a rifle.”

The comment came while Trump Jr. spoke with Sean Hannity on July 16 during the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

U.S. National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson noted that, for years, officials have tracked Iranian “threats against former Trump.” Over the years, the threats resulted in an increase in security details for former Trump administration officials such as former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former National Security Adviser John R. Bolton.

According to U.S. intelligence officials, Iran may be seeking revenge against Trump for the 2020 death of Iranian commander Lt. Gen. Qasem Soleimani, killed by a U.S. drone strike intended to “stop a war,” which was authorized by Trump.

A national security official claimed that due to the threat from Iran, the Secret Service had enhanced its protections for Trump, especially during his outdoor events.

Despite the claims from intelligence officials of an Iranian plot to assassinate Trump, Iran’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations called the allegations “unsubstantiated and malicious.” According to a statement, Iran has chosen a “legal path” to bring Trump “to justice.” Iran stated in January that it intended to petition the International Court of Justice for Soleimani’s death.

It does not appear as though Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, the gunman who shot Trump during his July 13 campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, is connected to the alleged potential Iranian plot. Crooks opened fire at Trump not long after he took the stage at the Butler Farm Show grounds. Rally attendee Corey Comperatore, 50, was killed, and two other attendees, James Copenhaver, 74, and David Dutch, 57, were injured in the shooting.
