Trump Hit With 4th Indictment as 2024 Election Approaches

(LibertySociety.com) – As expected, former President Trump was indicted by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. Late in the evening on August 14, Willis held a press conference detailing the charges against him and 18 co-conspirators for their role in allegedly attempting to interfere with the results of the 2020 election in Georgia. She alleged that Trump and the other defendants violated the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO Act). The 13 charges against Trump include various conspiracy charges, along with allegedly filing false documents and giving false statements.

Other prominent defendants include former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, attorney Sidney Powell, Trump’s former chief of staff Mark Meadows, Trump election lawyer John Eastman, and former Assistant Attorney General Jeffrey Clark. Giuliani was charged with 13 counts, while the others fared better. Attorney Jenna Ellis, who briefly represented Trump and traveled to several states to testify to legislators about what they could do to delay the certification of electors, was charged with just two counts. Those charges include a RICO Act violation and allegedly soliciting a public officer to violate their oath of office.

Many of the people charged by Willis have defended their actions, as they believed that there was a significant amount of fraud that occurred in Georgia’s election. Giuliani responded to his indictment, blasting the DA’s office for indicting him for representing former President Trump. He stated that as his attorney, he is “supposed to argue in his favor.”

Mark Meadows filed court documents on August 15, requesting that his case be moved to a federal court, as he was acting in his capacity in the Trump administration. He also intends to file a motion to dismiss the two charges against him, which are the same as the charges against Ellis. Former President Trump’s attorneys responded to the indictment shortly after the press conference, noting that the charges were illegally leaked earlier in the day, although Willis claimed to know nothing about the leak.
