( – Former President Donald Trump made his first public appearance at the Georgia Republican state convention since he was indicted by Special Counsel Jack Smith on Friday, June 9th, 2023. He gave one of his traditional rally speeches, with a special focus on what he believes is a politically motivated indictment against him. He called out Special Counsel Smith and the Department of Justice (DOJ), stating, “They took one charge, and they made it 36 different times.” He also claimed there is a clear difference in the way Republicans and Democrats are treated.

Trump railed against President Joe Biden’s administration, claiming they’re weaponizing the federal government against him and calling what’s happening to him a “political hit job.” He directly accused Biden of trying to put him behind bars, adding “just like they do in Stalinist Russia or communist China.”

On June 7th, 2023, the House Judiciary Committee interviewed Steven D’Antuono, who was a senior FBI official that helped coordinate the Mar-a-Lago raid. He expressed his belief that there were abnormalities in how the case was handled, which were communicated to AG Garland in a letter from the Judiciary Committee. D’Antuono told the committee that it was odd that the FBI field office in Miami did not execute the search or assign a U.S. attorney to oversee the raid, additionally saying that he believed it was abnormal that there was not an effort to schedule a search with the former president or that they did not wait for former President Trump’s attorneys to arrive before beginning the search.
