Trump Calls It a ‘Very Sad Day for America’

(LibertySociety.com) – Special Counsel Jack Smith’s latest indictment of former President Trump has only amplified Republican accusations of political prosecution. Smith indicted Trump for his actions leading up to the riot at the Capitol on January 6, 2021. He claims that Trump knew that the 2020 election was not stolen from him but continued to tell the world otherwise. He faces three conspiracy charges and one count of obstruction and attempted obstruction of an official proceeding. Much of the indictment is related to the planning of lawmakers’ objections to the certification of the electors for six states. Smith claims that Trump and six co-conspirators were attempting to take legitimate votes away from Joe Biden so that he could remain in office.

Trump pleaded not guilty to the charges in a Washington D.C. federal courthouse on August 3. Shortly before boarding his airplane, he spoke to the press, mostly to criticize the Department of Justice (DOJ) for interfering with the 2024 presidential election. “This is a very sad day for America,” Trump said, also remarking on the poor appearance of the nation’s capital city. He went on to reference the latest polling that shows him ahead of President Biden, stating, “So, you can’t beat him, you persecute him or you prosecute them.” He is not alone in his speculation on why the DOJ waited so long to bring charges against him for the events of January 6, as millions believe the indictment is politically motivated.

The timing of the latest charges has been widely discussed on social media, as they came just one day after Hunter Biden’s former business partner confirmed President Biden’s involvement in his son’s business dealings in a closed-door testimony to the House Oversight Committee. The left-leaning mainstream media was only spending time on Devon Archer’s testimony to tell their viewers that President Biden was just discussing the weather with Hunter Biden’s business partners. They were able to immediately shift to a new narrative once the indictment was handed down. Trump will return to court on August 28 for a hearing in the case.
