Trump Appears at CNN Town Hall Event

( – To the dismay of millions of Democrats and some CNN hosts, former President Trump gave a performance during the CNN Town Hall Event in Manchester, New Hampshire, the first primary state for the 2024 election. The event began with Kaitlan Collins asking the 45th President about the 2020 election.

She then switched to the events of January 6th, 2021, speaking about the timeline of his response once the Capitol building was breached. This prompted the former President to pull a piece of paper from his jacket pocket to defend his conduct, providing tweets and times that he encouraged peace and compliance with law enforcement. He mentioned what he argues was the unjust killing of Ashli Babbitt, calling out the Capitol Police officer who took her life.

Trump took several questions from the audience, which was filled with Republicans and undecided voters who sought answers about the border crisis, abortion, and whether he would pardon the January 6th rioters.

Collins also asked about the classified documents that former President Trump kept in his possession. In response, he claimed that he had the authority as President to declassify those documents, and switched the conversation to say Biden did not have that authority as Vice President or Senator, yet he had multiple classified documents in various locations. Following the event, CNN fact checked a number of Trump’s claims regarding January 6, E. Jean Carroll, Ukraine, inflation, and more.

The network reportedly had over 3.3 million viewers tuning in to the event. However, many Democrats expressed anger over the Town Hall, with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) saying on Twitter that CNN should be “ashamed” for having Trump. Meanwhile, author Amanda Carpenter said that Trump “did not deserve” the forum.
