Trump and Supporters Spread Violence, Claims Stephanopoulos

(LibertySociety.com) – On July 14, on “This Week” host George Stephanopoulos accused former President Donald Trump and his supporters of contributing to the “violent rhetoric.”

While discussing the attempted assassination of Trump, Stephanopoulos and his co-host, Martha Raddatz, blamed Trump for contributing to the situation, pointing to what they feel are examples of his “violent rhetoric.” They claimed Trump had issued a warning if Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg charged him “of potential death and destruction.” They also claimed Trump called for “a bloodbath for the country” if he is not re-elected in November, though they did note that Trump stated his comment was taken out of context. Raddatz also claimed that Jan. 6, 2021, was an example of “violent rhetoric” from Trump and his supporters.

They also criticized comments made by former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy and Vice Presidential candidate and Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, who have both vocally criticized Democrats for the rhetoric about Trump contributing to his assassination attempt.

The comments from Stephanopoulos and Raddatz came one day after Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, fired at least five shots at Trump just after he took the stage July 13 for a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. One of the bullets hit Trump’s ear and he was immediately surrounded by Secret Service agents. The shooting left one person, Corey Comperatore, 50, dead, and two others, David Dutch, 57, and James Copenhaver, 74, injured.

Many users on Twitter pointed to the comments from Stephanopoulos and Raddatz as reasons people do not trust the mainstream media.

One user wrote how Stephanopoulos was blaming Trump, who was inches from being killed, for the assassination attempt. While another user called the comments “disgusting,” adding that they should not be blaming the victims for the assassination attempt. Some users provided clarification for their examples of “violent rhetoric,” noting that his “bloodbath” comment was in reference to the auto industry workers.
