Travis Kelce Donates $100,000 to Super Bowl Parade Victims

(LibertySociety.com) – Following the tragic shooting that occurred at the parade to celebrate the Kansas City Chief’s Super Bowl victory, players and celebrities have donated to some of the victims and their families. Travis Kelce, who plays tight end for the Chiefs, donated $100,000 to support the Reyes family, whose 8 and 10-year-old daughters were both shot in the leg. A GoFundMe was started for the family, which had a goal of $100,000. Kelce’s donation from his Eight-Seven & Running charity met that goal, but the campaign also received $73,000 from over 1,000 unique donors.

The team’s star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, accompanied by his wife Brittany Mahomes, also visited the girls in the hospital. At the time of the shooting, Mahomes wrote on X, formerly Twitter, that he was “praying for Kansas City.” Kelce posted that he was heartbroken over what happened, ending his X post with “KC, you mean the world to me.” Kelce’s girlfriend, Taylor Swift, donated $100,000 to a fundraiser for Lisa Lopez-Galvan, who was the only person to die in the shooting that day. The mother of the Reyes family was a cousin of Lopez-Galvan. The shooting resulted in injuries to 22 others, including 11 children.

On February 16, local officials announced that two juveniles were facing charges for the shooting, but the investigation was still ongoing. On February 20, two adults were charged with second-degree murder. Dominic Miller, 18, and Lyndell Mays, 22, are being held on a $1 million bond. According to Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker, both men have been in custody since the day of the shooting but were also hospitalized. The gun that fired the weapon that killed Lopez-Galvan reportedly belonged to Miller. Mays’ mother started a GoFundMe to help cover his hospital bills, but she later took down the campaign. Prosecutors said that Mays and Miller had never met before the parade but began shooting at each other after getting into a verbal altercation. The men are also facing several other charges.
