Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson’s L.A. Home Burglarized in Daytime

(LibertySociety.com) – Academy Award-winning actor Tom Hanks and his wife actress Rita Wilson were among the victims of a recent string of home burglaries in Southern California when a guest home on their Los Angeles estate was robbed in mid-July.

According to reports, burglars smashed a window of the guest house in broad daylight, setting off an alarm. Neither Hanks nor Wilson was home at the time of the burglary and it was unclear what, if anything, the thieves made off with.

It is suspected that the burglary was linked to a series of robberies that several crews of thieves have carried out in recent months in the more high-end neighborhoods of Los Angeles.

Late last year, Hanks’ son Chet Hanks was also a victim of robbery.

The 34-year-old Chet Hanks stopped a burglar who was attempting to break in in the middle of the night last November by subduing him with a punch to the face. The two men fought while Hanks waited for the police.

The suspect continued fighting with the police after he was placed under arrest. As they hauled him to the patrol car, the burglar fell backward onto one of the officers, breaking his leg.

The robbery at Tom Hanks’ home came just weeks after the first trailer for the Oscar-winning actor’s latest film “Here” was released.

The film, which reunites Hanks with his “Forrest Gump” director Robert Zemeckis and co-star Robyn Wright, spans the generations of the same family and all of the scenes take place in a single setting — the living room of the family’s home.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, director Robert Zemeckis said the film relies heavily on digital de-aging technology coupled with traditional make-up to show the Hanks and Wright characters throughout different stages of their lives.

Filmed in London, “Here” also features “Downton Abbey” star Michelle Dockery, as well as Kellly Reilly, Ophelia Lovibond, and Paul Bettany.

It is set to hit theaters in mid-November.
