Tennessee Senator to Address Immigration Crisis

Tennessee Senator to Address Immigration Crisis

(LibertySociety.com) – The crisis at the southern border continues to be an issue for President Joe Biden’s administration. Biden placed Vice President Kamala Harris in charge of it in March, but she has still not scheduled a trip to view the border problem herself. However, she has said she will be visiting Mexico and Central America in the coming weeks. Now, a Republican senator is planning his own trip.

On May 5, Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN), who served as ambassador to Japan from 2017 to 2019, is traveling to Mexico and Guatemala this week. The senator wants to figure out how to decrease the number of illegal immigrants pouring across the southern border. He told Fox News the border crisis is the “most immediate national security” problem currently facing the country. So he’s going south to find “the root causes” of the border crisis.

Hagerty’s trip to Mexico and Guatemala will take place a month before Harris’s scheduled trip there. That’s notable because there seems to be no urgency from the White House to deal with the ongoing crisis. Thankfully, the GOP senator understands just how serious the problem is, and perhaps he can get some of the answers Biden’s team has failed to obtain.
