Ted Cruz Calls Out SCOTUS — Says They Were “Wrong”

(LibertySociety.com) – In a recent interview, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) said when the Supreme Court decided through Obergefell v. Hodges that gay marriage was legal across the US, it was “clearly wrong.” He felt states already had individual laws in place regarding the subject, and the federal court probably overstepped its bounds when it made the 2015 ruling.

Although the legislator’s words do not necessarily mean SCOTUS will overturn the previous ruling, his thoughts seem to align with a point Justice Clarence Thomas noted when the court handed down its opinion about Roe v. Wade.

The justice’s companion document mentioned he felt the Obergefell case, in addition to Griswold v. Connecticut and Lawrence v. Texas, should all be reconsidered by the court eventually. However, Justice Samuel Alito made it clear the Supreme Court ruling on abortion was only about that subject and “no other right.”

Cruz also said during the interview that he doesn’t believe SCOTUS is interested in overturning the cases Thomas mentioned in his opinion. The senator stated the move would create a lot of chaos for married people of the same sex.

Do you agree the Supreme Court overreached when it made its previous ruling regarding gay marriage?
