Shooting Suspect Arrested By Police

(LibertySociety.com) – On Saturday, May 8, at around 4:55 p.m., shots rang out in Times Square in New York City. When the shooting ended, three people were injured. One victim included a 23-year-old tourist from Rhode Island, shot in the leg while with her 2-year-old, who was uninjured. A 43-year-old New Jersey woman took a bullet to the foot. The final victim was a 4-year-old girl from Brooklyn who suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and underwent surgery.

The suspect fled the scene, but now police believe they have the man who committed the crime in custody.

On Wednesday, May 12, officers with the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force and US Marshals apprehended Farrakhan Muhammad outside of a McDonald’s in Starke, Florida. The alleged suspect was sitting in a car with a woman believed to be his girlfriend when authorities arrested him.

NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea applauded the arrest, saying that although “there is no joy today, there is justice.” On Twitter, he also said that the suspect’s apprehension was just the beginning of a long process, and the victims’ “mental & physical trauma” will likely never be undone. The suspect faces extradition to New York.
