(LibertySociety.com) – The alleged shooter who attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump on July 13 at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, is dead.
Secret Service agents rushed Trump off the stage after gunshots were fired at the rally not long after Trump took the stage at the Butler Farm Show grounds. He had been talking about President Joe Biden and illegal immigrants entering the country when more than five gunshots were fired. He dropped to the ground as he grabbed his right ear while Secret Service agents rushed to the stage. Blood was seen on his cheek and his right ear as Secret Service agents rushed him off the stage, but not before raising his arms and telling the crowd to “Fight.”
Trump wrote that the bullet had “pierced the upper part of my right ear” in a post on Truth Social. He went on to thank law enforcement and the Secret Service, and, “most importantly,” he extended his condolences to the family of the man killed.
According to the U.S. Secret Services, the shooter, identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, fired at the former president from an “elevated position.” According to the Department of Homeland Security, he purchased 50 rounds of ammunition before the rally from a gun shop in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.
The shooting left one person, Corey Comperatore, 50, a firefighter and a father of two daughters, from Sarver, Pennsylvania. According to Eric Trump, a member of the Trump family will attend his funeral, and a GoFundMe page created for his family has raised nearly $5 million.
Two people were injured in the shooting. David Dutch, 57, was shot in the chest and liver. He has been upgraded from critical to stable condition and is no longer in a medically induced coma. James Copenhaver, 74, is also in stable condition.
In a statement after the shooting, Donald Trump Jr. said his father would “never stop fighting to save America.”
An elite FBI Fly Team will conduct an “assassination investigation.”
