Sen. Padilla Defends Harris: “Cut Her a Little Bit of Slack”

(LibertySociety.com) – California Democrat Senator Alex Padilla last week dismissed the calls for Democrat presidential nominee Kamala Harris to hold a press conference or agree to a sit-down interview, explaining that she is too busy at the moment and would get to it “soon.”

While appearing on CNN’s “News Central” last Thursday, Padilla, who replaced Harris as California senator after she became vice president, told host Sara Sidner that the Democrat nominee did not need to do interviews because she has served as vice president for the last three-and-a-half years.

Last Wednesday, Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance arrived at the same Wisconsin airport as Vice President Harris and approached reporters near Air Force Two to call attention to Harris’ unwillingness to speak to the press, suggesting to reporters that he was worried that they might be “lonely.”

Senator Padilla blasted Vance, accusing him of “trolling” the vice president. Calling Vance’s appearance as a “stunt,” Padilla said it showed the Trump campaign’s “desperation” and suggested that it was proof that Republicans could not “run on a record” or a “vision for the future.”

Padilla suggested that the Harris campaign ran on “hope” and “optimism” while the Trump campaign was left with “trolling.”

The California Democrat argued that the reason Vice President Harris has not done interviews “over the years” was that she was too busy “doing the job of vice president.”

Padilla insisted that Harris has had a “tremendous” career, first as the district attorney of San Francisco and then as California Attorney General. He noted that Harris served in the Senate longer than JD Vance before she became vice president and suggested that she was the one with the “experience” and “maturity.”

Padilla also told Sara Sidner that Vice President Harris would eventually sit down for interviews but said for now, voters should “cut her a little bit of slack” because of the “unprecedented way” Harris became the Democrat nominee.

He praised Harris for winning the support of the convention delegates and how quickly she “vetted” her “tremendous running mate,” Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. He said Harris has been too busy preparing for the upcoming Democratic convention and campaigning to do interviews but said the Harris campaign would “get to the media interviews soon enough.”
