(LibertySociety.com) – On Sunday, March 14, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said Democrats should not change the filibuster. However, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) acknowledged his priorities were the progressive agenda and a permanent majority in the Senate at all costs. To do that, he’s prepared to end the filibuster if Republicans refuse to go along with the leftist agenda. However, he may get pushback from some in the Democratic Party.
“But if they vote no… Everything will be on the table,” said Schumer.
Changing or eliminating the #Filibuster is possible if Republicans continue opposing Democrat legislative priorities, said @SenSchumer. https://t.co/h3gBGNsYkc

The filibuster is an often-used tool by an opposition party to kill legislation. Before 1917, there was no method to end a debate and force a vote on the Senate floor. In that year, the Senate created the filibuster. Today, legislation requires 60 votes to move through the Senate. There are not enough votes in the evenly-divided upper chamber, and therefore the only way to pass the far-left agenda is without Republicans.
However, moderate Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) recently said he would never allow the filibuster to end. If Democrats lose one vote, the measure to end it would die on arrival. Other Senators continue to hint at their displeasure over the idea as well.
