(LibertySociety.com) – Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) recently made it clear to the public that it might be time to revoke Disney’s privileges that have allowed them them the right to self-govern for several decades.
The controversy started when Disney publicly opposed the Florida Parental Rights in Education law recently passed in the state, also known by the popular yet inaccurate Leftist title “Don’t Say Gay”. Although Disney didn’t speak out about the bill at first, upsetting many Democrats, the company finally declared it would fight the law, angering Republicans and many in the state who supported the bill.
After the announcement, DeSantis stated he didn’t think passing the 1967 legislation was ever an appropriate move in the first place. On March 30, state Representative Spencer Roach (R-FL) tweeted that Florida legislators met the previous day for the second time to discuss repealing the Reedy Creek Improvement Act. He said if the company “wants to embrace woke ideology,” then Orange County should regulate them instead of Disney governing itself.
Yesterday was the 2nd meeting in a week w/fellow legislators to discuss a repeal of the 1967 Reedy Creek Improvement Act, which allows Disney to act as its own government. If Disney wants to embrace woke ideology, it seems fitting that they should be regulated by Orange County. pic.twitter.com/6sj29Gj6Wz

In 1967, Florida lawmakers passed legislation that established the Reedy Creek Improvement District in Osceola and Orange County, essentially allowing the powerful and influential corporation Disney autonomy, much like its own city.
The governor believes Disney doesn’t have the power it did in the past, and with the company’s views differing from the majority of residents, it might be time to make some changes.
