(LibertySociety.com) – For four years, former President Donald Trump made it a point to treat the Iran problem with the seriousness it warranted. The former commander-in-chief pulled the US out of the allegedly failed nuclear deal and levied sanctions on the hostile nation. President Joe Biden, on the other hand, apparently thinks he’s going to be able to negotiate with the country, but Republicans are now sending him a warning.
On April 7, four senior Republican senators — Marco Rubio (FL), Pat Toomey (PA), Jim Inhofe (OK) and Todd Young (IN) — sent an open letter to Biden urging him to keep the sanctions against Iran and not return to the nuclear deal. The lawmakers said they were “deeply troubled” by reports the president was going to rejoin the agreement and end bipartisan sanctions that seek to punish the country for its “support for terrorism, nuclear enrichment program” and missile program.
The U.S. should not return to the failed Iran Deal. Troubled by @USEnvoyIran’s apparent push to do exactly that. My colleagues @SenRubioPress, @SenToomey & @SenToddYoung joined me in a letter to @POTUS urging him to work with us on a better path forward. pic.twitter.com/5WG63DCRtl

The senators told the president that he currently has an enormous amount of leverage he could use to force Iran to comply with rules put in place by the US. They said they’d like to move forward and work with the president to make that happen. Now, the ball is in Biden’s court. Is he going to put his money where his mouth is and prove that he truly wants to encourage bipartisanship, or will he continue to snub Republicans as he has repeatedly done over the last two and a half months?
