(LibertySociety.com) – Roughly one in three voters believe that President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the presidential race will make it “more likely” that Donald Trump will win in November, according to a recent YouGov poll.
When asked what impact they thought Biden’s decision to withdraw from the nomination would have on the presidential election, 36 percent of respondents said it would make a Donald Trump victory more likely. Another 23 percent said it would make a Trump victory less likely, while 18 percent said it would not affect the outcome. Another 23 percent were unsure.
Among Republican voters, the majority, 53 percent, said Trump was “more likely” to win with Biden out of the race. Only eight percent of Republican voters thought Biden’s withdrawal would lower the chance of a Trump victory in November, while 24 percent said it would not affect Trump’s chances either way.
Thirty-four percent of Independents also believe that Trump is more likely to win with Biden out of the race.
Among Democrats, 37 percent said Biden’s withdrawal would make it more likely that the Democrat nominee would defeat Trump in November while 22 percent said it would increase Trump’s chances of victory.
When asked who the Democrats should choose as their nominee now that Biden was out of the race, only 37 percent named Vice President Kamala Harris while 35 percent wanted someone else. However, the majority of Democrats, 60 percent, named Harris.
The poll also found that a majority of voters either somewhat or strongly approved of President Biden’s decision to withdraw from the race, with 49 percent strongly approving and another 22 percent somewhat approving. Only 16 percent of respondents somewhat or strongly disapproved of the president’s decision.
Among Democrat voters, 39 percent “strongly” approved while another 31 percent “somewhat approved” of the president’s withdrawal from the race.
