Republicans Ask DOJ To Subpoena Governor Cuomo

Republicans Ask DOJ to Issue a Subpoena

( – NY Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) has been under immense scrutiny over the past several months for his response to COVID-19 in nursing homes. The controversy reached a new high on January 28, when Letitia James, the state attorney general, accused the administration of severely undercounting coronavirus deaths in the long-term living facilities. Finally, after months of suspicions, Republicans are taking action.

On February 3, Republican Congress members asked the Department of Justice to subpoena Cuomo for documents they believe might be related to a “coverup.” The groups said the AG’s report revealed that Cuomo and his administration “recklessly and knowingly underreported the number” of people who died in the senior living facilities.

The deaths resulted from a directive from Cuomo in March that required nursing homes to accept patients who tested positive for COVID-19. Those facilities were not adequately prepared because the virus was so new, and people died. It’s unknown how many were a direct result of the Cuomo administration’s decision, but hopefully, Republicans will figure it out and hold the right people accountable.
