(LibertySociety.com) – When former President Donald Trump pulled the US out of the Barack Obama-era Iran nuclear agreement in 2018, Democrats were furious. President Joe Biden pledged to renegotiate the deal and put the US right back in bed with the adversarial nation. One Republican lawmaker is trying to prevent that from happening.
On March 2, the Washington Free Beacon reported Rep. Andy Barr (R-KY) is sponsoring legislation that’ll prevent the Biden administration from using federal funds toward the Iran nuclear deal unless specific stipulations are met. The bill states that if the executive branch wants to use federal funds, it must get Senate approval because the chamber is supposed to oversee all treaty agreements.

When Obama entered into the agreement, he bypassed the Senate. Rep. Barr says the Senate must “reclaim its oversight” powers and not allow the Biden administration to ignore Congress, too. Unfortunately, there’s little chance the bill will pass while Democrats hold the majority in the legislative branch.
