(LibertySociety.com) – Far-left progressive Missouri Democrat Cori Bush has married one of her security guards, according to Fox News. Of the $500,000 that Rep. Bush spent on security during the 2022 election cycle, over $62,000 was paid to her security guard turned husband. Bush has been a very outspoken advocate for defunding police departments, even as her Democrat colleagues have shied away from this type of rhetoric. She has publicly criticized the members of her party who have disavowed the movement due to its extreme unpopularity and the rising crime in major U.S. cities.
Defunding the police was a major campaign platform of 2020 after the killing of George Floyd, especially from the far-left wing of the Democrat Party. Congresswoman Bush has pushed to re-allocate funds from police departments to social services and mental health counseling, stating that the policies of her colleagues “keep ending up with police murdering Black people.” Bush claims that this re-allocation will save lives. However, critics of the movement argue that defunding the police will further enable criminals and disrespect the victims. Some accused her of hypocrisy for having security while pushing to cut police funding, but when asked about it, she exclaimed “They would rather I die?” Bush added that dying could be the alternative if she did not have security.
The Congresswoman may soon be standing alone, or at least with only the support of her far-left progressive colleagues, in her endeavors to defund the police. Back in 2021, reports emerged that some Democrats were accusing the GOP of being the ones trying to cut police funding. However, The Republican Study Committee hit back by sharing a video of all of the times the Democrats called to defund the police.
