Producer Spills The Beans On Johnny Depp’s Future In “Pirates” Franchise
(LibertySociety.com) – The Sunday Times asked producer Jerry Bruckheimer if Johnny Depp will reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, to which he answered: “Not at this point.” However, he did add a qualifier to his statement, saying the future is undecided, leaving the possibility open. Bruckheimer is currently working on two additional Pirates movies and is looking to cast actress Margot Robbie in at least one.
There’s no word on how the franchise will explain Jack’s absence from the movies if Depp doesn’t return.

“Pirates of the Caribbean” and Johnny Depp fans will most likely not accept another actor playing the part of the comedic and quirky Captain Jack Sparrow, leaving Bruckheimer with a problem.
Depp revealed during the trial, in which he is suing his ex-wife for defamation of character, that he has no plans to return to the role. Considering Disney dropped the actor from Pirates amidst Amber Heard’s unsubstantiated abuse allegations without any proof, it’s no wonder.
On the other hand, Depp is deeply intertwined with the character, and if the franchise made him a sweet deal, there’s no telling what he would decide. As of now, the answer is up in the air, with Bruckheimer not closing the door on the issue but leaving a little crack to show fans perhaps they have not seen the last of Captain Jack Sparrow.
