Pelosi Gets Booed at NYC Music Festival Appearance

(LibertySociety.com) – On September 24, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and her husband joined the Global Citizen Festival in Central Park — an annual musical event. When host Priyanka Chopra Jonas encouraged the politician up on stage, the crowd erupted in a roaring boo at the mere mention of her.

The Global Citizen Festival is a gathering in New York, bringing together leaders, businesses, activists, and philanthropists, in an effort to shine a light on and end poverty. This year featured such artists as Metallica, Mariah Carey, and the Jonas Brothers.

Despite the sour welcome, Pelosi appeared in front of the crowd. She thanked all the concert-goers for their “advocacy, entrepreneurial thinking,” and for being good citizens thinking about the world on a global scale. The speaker also brought up the controversial Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, which aims, in part, to address climate change while reducing energy costs for Americans.

While the California lawmaker was able to drum up a few cheers for her words, hecklers peppered in their sentiments by attempting to rush her off the stage. The excited crowd seemed to drown out the Speaker until she finally relented with some final words pointing out that her grandchildren were in the audience.

Considering the Big Apple is largely liberal, why do you think Pelosi was met with such angst?
