(LibertySociety.com) – Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi denied any involvement in forcing President Joe Biden to drop out of the presidential election, insisting that she loved the president and wanted to preserve his legacy.
In an appearance on “CBS News Sunday Morning,” Pelosi told anchor Lesley Stahl that despite reports to the contrary, she had no part in the Democrat pressure campaign to force Biden to withdraw from the race, insisting that she made no phone calls to anyone.
Pelosi said she had confidence that President Biden would make the right choice for the country, no matter what he decided.
When asked if she observed any signs of the president’s cognitive decline, the former Democrat speaker insisted that she saw nothing. Pelosi added that her view was that regardless of Biden’s decision, the Democrats needed a “more aggressive campaign.”
Pelosi dismissed the claims that the president was “furious” with her over his leaving the race, telling Lesley Stahl that President Biden knew that she loved him “very much.”
The former speaker said that her focus was on preserving Biden’s legacy as president. She touted his so-called accomplishments and praised his performance at NATO’s 75th Anniversary Summit in Washington, saying that Biden was at “the top of his game.”
Pelosi described Joe Biden as a “consequential president” and suggested that he belonged on Mount Rushmore.
In a subsequent interview with George Stephanopoulos on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” Pelosi was again asked about the role she played in Biden’s decision to withdraw from the presidential race.
The former speaker insisted that she did not ask Biden to drop out but instead asked for a campaign that could win in November, explaining that she didn’t see victory “on the horizon.”
The 84-year-old Pelosi said she had great respect for President Biden and insisted that he would be viewed as “one of the most consequential presidents” in history. She said she wanted Biden’s legacy to be recognized and said she told the president that he should make a decision that would “best preserve” his legacy.
