(LibertySociety.com) – Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and the Democratic Party really want to put together a bipartisan commission to investigate the January 6 events. The party believes it’s necessary to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future. Republicans in the Senate recently voted down the proposal, believing it was another attempt by the Left to make former President Donald Trump look bad and attack the GOP. New reports indicate Dems might try to form a committee anyway.
On June 13, Pelosi spoke to Dana Bash during an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” about the commission. Bash asked if the Speaker was going to form a select committee to look into it. Pelosi said that she was going to give it one more day before she made a decision. According to her, she would have had 57 votes in the Senate had everyone been present that day, so she hopes to get three more votes to override a GOP filibuster.
Pelosi said that it’s within her power to form a select committee. She said she hopes that knowledge motivates Republicans to vote for the bipartisan commission.
The DOJ and other congressional committees are already investigating the day. Conservatives have said another probe is not necessary. It’s unclear if Pelosi will get the votes to try to push the bill through the Senate again, but it doesn’t seem likely. If she takes it upon herself to form a select committee, it would almost certainly be seen as a partisan move.
