Oversight Committee Holds Hearing on Hunter Biden Story

Oversight Hearing On Suppression of Hunter Biden Laptop Story

(LibertySociety.com) – The House Oversight Committee had a hearing on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, to get to the bottom of the reason behind Twitter’s decision to lock the verified account of the nation’s oldest newspaper, The New York Post, after it broke the story of Hunter Biden’s laptop shortly before the 2020 Presidential election. Back in December, it was revealed that the FBI warned Twitter and other social media companies of the potential for Russian disinformation ahead of the election.

During the hearing, former Twitter officials, including James Baker, former DOJ official turned Twitter lawyer, seemed not to remember some details around the suppression of the story on October 14th, 2020. When pressed by Representative Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, some officials appeared to have lapses in memory.

Most notably, Representative Jordan pressed James Baker about having conversations with any of the former intelligence officials that signed the infamous letter stating that the laptop was Russian disinformation, to which he responded by saying he didn’t remember who actually signed the letter. Representative Kelly Armstrong, R-ND, balked at the answers provided by Yoel Roth, former Twitter head of trust and safety, when he claimed to not have had contact with the FBI after the story broke, as reported by the New York Post.

Former President Trump has claimed that the censorship of the story affected the outcome of the 2020 election, and recently he reiterated his thoughts about the matter on Truth Social. Since acquiring Twitter and taking the company private, Elon Musk has released most of the information regarding Twitter’s actions to help Americans learn the truth about what really happened that day. These revelations have given Republicans the fuel they need to demand transparency from the FBI and their involvement with Twitter.
